The other week, our very own Sandra Gonzalez was invited to talk at the Talk UX conference in Manchester. The main purpose of this conference was to examine the different areas that make up the user experience (UX) role, from research to data schema, in order to showcase the breadth of knowledge in UX and the fantastic work that is being done with it. Although Sandra had originally intended to talk about teaching children how to create paper prototypes and how to carry out user research, an opportunity as perfect as the Talk UX conference in Manchester, with a room filled with the countries finest UX Designers, was too good a chance to let them know how they can really use UX for good, by teaching children how to become designers and makers. But how did our team prepared to support her talk weeks before the actual day? We at TheASX.org started planning how we were going to make the most of the opportunity presented to us at the Talk UX conference. As a team, we came to the...

On November 4th, 2014 the Nimbus Ninety’s third IGNITE forum, one of the leading independent UK business technology events and research organisation, took place in London. As the founder of TheASX.org, I was very pleased to be part of this amazing event which was full of great insight into how companies around the world are pushing for disruptive innovation. There were a lot of conversations around the future of technology and the different platforms that will be part of it. Consequently wearables was right at the center of the conversations. Digital transformation strategist Rudy de Waele, internationally known as a leader in Mobile 2.0 where he was a proponent of open innovation and the development of the app economy ecosystem, shared great insight into what the future has in store for us. Rudy’s presentation (above) delighted us with a video from the Discovery channel called “Discovery Channel Beyond 2000 Wearable Computers 1992” which attempted to give people in the 90s a sneak peak into the future of wearable technology. I went out of my way to find the...

On October 25th, 2014, The Alternative Startup Experiment team took part in Mozfest 2014, where we acted as session facilitators. The team went there with a clear objective: to spread the word as to why we choose to work with Mozilla’s Open Badges, and to furthermore exemplify how beneficial the system can be to all those who implement Mozilla’s Open Badges. As well as this, the team was also enabled the opportunity to “learn, teach and collaborate”, which makeup three of The Alternative Startup Experiment’s basic principles. You may be thinking, what is Mozfest? Mozfest is Mozilla’s annual festival, dedicated to forging the future of the open web. The three days of Mozfest largely consist of learning, teaching, coding, designing, and above all, sharing. So how could we at The Alternative Startup Experiment possibly fit into this event? At TheASX we believe in a different way of putting ideas into practice. As Open Badge issuers, it was important for us to share our experience with everyone interested in the Open Badges Lab track, which was one of the...
